As we return from our summer holidays, this may be a good time to reflect on the journeys that we are on. A key part of my journey has been writing, but all my writing has been non-fiction (at least as far as I know).
Recently, I’ve felt a pull into poetry, something I had never considered. I made a first tentative stab with a short poem that I posted on social media on July 5 and I got such an encouraging response that it motivated me to take the next step.
What journey are you on?
We are all on a journey.
But many of us are following paths
Shaped by others,
Seeking to please
Or get promoted.
Few of us have made the effort
To reflect on our destination
And craft our own.
Pursuing our own destination
will require us
To forge our own path.
Many of us are afraid
To venture off the well-traveled paths
Because we can’t see the full path ahead.
But all we need
Is to begin with the first step
And embrace the experience of moving forward
So that we learn as we go.
Open the door now
And step outside
Beyond your comfort zone
Even though the path
May not yet be clear.
If we dare to explore,
Who knows what wonderful lands
We might discover
And who we might become?
And for those who are interested to see my first poetry venture from a couple of months ago, here it is:
Many of us
are on a journey
to evolve
from human doings to human beings.
But let's not stop there.
Let's claim our true nature as human becomings,
constantly exploring and evolving,
and achieving more of our potential,
for we are truly made
of the earth and the stars.
Very good! And very inspiring. Don't stop!

John, these poems touched me. I have had many of the same feelings recently and I too have evolved from writing non-fiction and business stuff to poetry. I feel it isn’t sign of evolution.
